Dolphins Swimming on the Bottom
October 25th, 2007
Dolphins generally swim near the surface, or as close to the top of the water they are inĀ as possible. Not the Miami Dolphins though. They like swimming on the bottom, and seven-weeks and seven-losses into their season, these Dolphins are hoping that they’ve reached rock-bottom.
Going nearly two-months without a win to start a season is never fun. Currently one of just two teams at 0-7, Miami can attest to that. But it gets were for a Dolphins team that looks like it’s on a fast-track for the number-1 pick in April’s NFL Draft.
Last week, the team lost starting running-back Ronnie Brown for the season. Brown was trying to make a tackle after backup-quarterback Cleo Lemon’s was intercepted, and when he tried to stop and reverse his field, his foot didn’t move and the rest of his leg did. Welcome to Miami’s season.
One player who wasn’t playing last weekend - when Miami lost it’s lone bright spot of an otherwise horrific season - was Zack Thomas. Thomas missed last week’s game, and will miss the team’s game against the New York Giants as well, because he suffered whiplash in a car-accident on the way to Dolphins stadium last Sunday morning. Welcome to Miami’s season.
The Dolphins’ game this coming Sunday is a “home” game. I used quotes around home their because they are playing the game out of the country, in London. Because the NFL sent them over to London to play this weekend, they’ll only actually play seven real home games, one less than every other team in the NFL. Welcome to Miami’s season.
When the 2007 campaign started, the plan was that Trent Green would quarterback the team back into contention. He sustained a bad concussion and was carted off the field some three-weeks ago, when he tried to throw a block on a run-play towards the sideline.
GreensĀ head hit the knee of a defensive lineman, cattapulting the big tackle into the air, but leaving Green laying lifelessly on the field. Luckilly he would come to, and at this moment has no lingering ramifications from the hit. But the damage was done. He hasn’t played since, and might not take another snap with teh Dolphins. Welcome to Miami’s season.
So the next time you are feeling down, and you are on the verge of having a woah-is-me moment, realize that it could be worse. Your tire might go flat, your headlight migh burn out, or maybe you’ll spill something on a drink you just had cleaned. But don’t get down. Just think this thought… You could be the Miami Dolphins.
