You can call Brandon Lloyd a lot of things. Luck isn’t one of them.

The much-maligned, and extremely talented, Washington Redskins’ wide-receiver was placed on Injured Reserve on Thursday afternoon, just hours after he broke his collar-bone on the final play of a practice-session at Redskins Park. According to Redskins’ head-trainer Bubba Tyre, Lloyd landed awkwardly on his shoulder while make a diving catch in the endzone. It was originally stated that he would miss six-weeks.

With just seven games left in the season though, Washington chose to put Lloyd on the shelf for the duration of the campaign. The team has replaced Lloyd on the roster with Jimmy Farris, whom the Redskins signed off the street moments after putting Lloyd on IR.

Farris played in four games for the Redskins back in 2005, and was even on the field for Washignton the last time the team played a playoff game. He was one of the final players released by the Redskins during the 2006 pre-season, despite having led the team in touchdown receptions during the exhibition-season.

While there is no doubting that Lloyd’s season is over, his stay in Washington might also have ended on Thursday as well. Lloyd fell out of favor with the coaching staff at some point earlier this year, and as a result he hasn’t had any opportunities to impress. The former San Francisco 49er has just two receptions this season, primarily because he’s been used as a fourth-receiver for the last couple months.

Farris will likely be the team’s fifth-option when the rest of the receiving corps is healthy. The problem right now thought is that they aren’t. Both Santana Moss and Antawn Randle El are nicked up, Moss more so than Randle El, and James Thrash is expected to miss about a month with a knee injury.

Keenan McCardell and Reche Caldwell, both signed during the season, will serve as the team’s third-and-foruth options respectively, and Farris will follow them on the depth-chart.
