The two remaining candidates for the Democratic nomination for the 2008 Presidential race have spoken a lot lately about beefy unemployment rates in this Country. David Carr, who was released on Wednesday by the Carolina Panthers, is the latest addition to the nation’s unemployment rate.

Carr is now six-years removed from being the number-one-overall-draft-choice by the Houston Texans. (It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long, but you know what they say. Time fly’s when you’re struggling as a quarterback). He’s now out of a job, after just one season in Carolina, and just a year after signing a two-year contract worth $6-million.

I still think Carr has game, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have success at some ponit down the road. His biggest problem in Houston was that he was getting sacked 32 times a game. I think it’s fair to say that it’s tough to play well under-center when you’re constantly on your back. As for his struggles last season, Carr’s quarterback rating was under 60, I think limited action with teammates he’d never played with could be to blame.

Don’t get me wrong though. I’m not saying that Carr is a stud, or that he’s going to be throwing passes in a Pro Bowl game at any point in the next few seasons. But he does possess a rare skillset, and he is a talented player.

One more thing before I put a bow on what will probably be my first and only blog on Carr. I once found the following clip on youtube, and I couldn’t stop laughing. It’s just a great summary of his time with Texans, and I suppose an indication as to how the folks in Houston viewed his departure.

Don’t ask me how I found this. As a college student, I spend hours on youtube for no other reason than to procrastinate. It’s a great way to avoid actually doing something productive. And at some point during my hours-and-hours of youtube surfing, probably within an hour of sunrise one morning, I came across this gem. Enjoy it. I sure did.
