Redskins: Hall Staying Put
February 27th, 2009
The Redskins were able to come to terms on a six-year, $54 million contract with Deangelo Hall on Thursday night. Hall was scheduled to have become a free agent at midnight on Friday morning.
The Oakland Raiders signed Hall to a monster contract last offseason, only to cut him part of the way through 2008. Washington signed the Virginia-native a few days after Oakland released him. While playing for the veteran minimum with the Redskins during the second half of last season, Hall performed at a high level. He’ll start opposite Carlos Rogers at cornerback for the Redskins this year.
Re-upping with Hall likely means that Shawn Springs’ days in DC are numbered. The Redskins can save $9 million against the cap in 2009 by cutting Springs before the start of the season.
