The Orioles beat the Seattle Mariners 12-4 in Seattle on Tuesday night.

Luke Scott is 3-for-4 with a home run, a pair of two-run singles, and seven RBI. Baltimore has gotten great work from it’s bullpen tonight, which came on in the third-inning after Jeremy Guthrie’s early exit. Read the rest »

Stimulus Package for Baltimore Rotation

June 2nd, 2009

The Baltimore Orioles have been benefitting from wonderful starting pitching over the past week. Who thought anybody would be saying that at any point in 2009? I certainly didn’t. Not with the rotation the Orioles entered the season with.

But with Adam Eaton out of baseball, Mark Hendrickson having been relegated to middle relief work, and Alfredo Simon out for the year — Baltimore has turned to a trio of young arms who have already begun to produce. Read the rest »

Wieters Tracker: A Debut at Camden

Matt Wieters was added to the 25 man roster on Friday afternoon. He’ll be catching and hitting 7th for the Baltimore Orioles in tonight’s home game with the Detroit Tigers.

For O’s, Future is Now

Matt Wieters will make his much anticipated major league debut on Friday night at Camden Yards. The long-awaited announcement was made by Baltimore’s President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail during an in-game television interview on MASN.

Wieters, who went 4-for-4 with four RBI in his final tune up at Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday night, is hitting .305 in the minor leagues. Widely considered the best prospect in all of baseball, a case could be made that Orioles fans have never viewed a minor league star with the reverence the fan base has bestowed upon the 2007 5th-overall pick. Nolan Reimold Gets the Call

The Baltimore Orioles optioned Bob McCrory to Triple-A Norfolk. To replace him on the big club’s roster, Nolan Reimold will be recalled.

Reimold is a 25-year-old outfielder with plus-power who has been dominating international league pitching in triple-a ball. He was hitting .394 (43-for-109) with 9 home runs and 27 RBI at Norfolk prior to the promotion. Having taken the field 31 times so far in 2009, Reimold’s batting average was the best in triple-a. So was his 1.228 OPS. Read the rest »

O’s - Yanks: In Progress

Bottom of the 5th continues here at Camden Yards with the Orioles leading the Yankees 3-1 on Opening Day. Brian Roberts just hit a lead-off double to right-center field to get the home-half of the inning started.

Nats, O’s Being Petty with Prospects

MATT WIETERS is the best catcher at Baltimore Orioles spring training, and no pitcher has looked sharper than Jordan Zimmerman at Washington Nationals camp. But it’s unlikely that either of the two top prospects will begin the season in the big leagues.

Wieters, the fifth-overall pick in the 2007 Draft, is considered baseball’s No. 1 overall prospect. That isn’t just among players in the Orioles system or in the American League. That’s among everybody. Read the rest »

O’s Update: How the Baby Birds are Fairing

Matt Wieters is making spring training another footnote on what has been a historical rise towards the majors since he was drafted 5th-overall in June of 2007.

Wieters hit .345 in A ball last year before being promoted to AA-Bowie where he proceeded to hit .365. The former standout at Georgia Tech finished his first pro season with 27 homers and 91 RBI. Read the rest »

Burres Out, Parrish in

Brian Burres was claimed off waivers by the Tortonto Blue Jays on Wednesday. The Orioles had designated Burres for assignment on Monday to make room for Rich Hill.

The Orioles replaced the departed left-hander by signing another southpaw, John Parrish, to a minor league contract. The former Oriole, who spent last season in Toronto, was invited to spring training as a non-roster invitee. Read the rest »
