Redskins in good shape, but line is not
September 19th, 2007
It’s been a good year for the Washington Redskins so far, but not for the team’s offensive line. In the team’s week-one win over Miami starting right-tackle Jon Jansen broke and dislocated his ankle, ending his season 15-weeks prematurely. This past weekend, in a week-two victory in Philadelphia, starting right-guard Randy Thomas tore his triceps. He’ll also miss the vast majority - if not all of - the season.
Todd Wade is Washinton’s new right-tackle. He started for Jansen on Monday night - and seeing as how his number wasn’t called once, and his name wasn’t mentioned at any point throughout the night - he played well. Jason Fabini, a first-year Redskin who like Wade, is also a long-time NFL veteran, will be asked to fill the vacancy left by Thomas. Read the rest »
Skins’ Win Under the Monday Night Lights
September 18th, 2007
With the game-clock down to 1:10, and the Washington Redskin defensive unit huffing-and-puffing, Donovan McNabb and teh Philadelphia Eagles broke the huddle looking to send their home-crowd into a frenzy. Philadelphia, down by eight points, had a 4th-and-6 upcoming from Washington’s nine-yard-line.
After taking a snap out of the shotgun, McNabb threw a dart to his top possesion-receiver Kevin Curtis in the middle of Washington’s defense. Curtis was able to get his hands on the football, but was simultaneously knocked into the air on a bone-crunching hit by Laron Landry, sending Curtis to the turf and the ball sailing into the air. The catch would have given the Eagles a first-down and another crack at tying the game, but Landry’s hit - in just his second game - cattapulted the Redskins to 2-0 on the young season. Redskins sign Reche Caldwell
September 11th, 2007
Two days after winning their season-opening game, the Washington Redskins announced that they have signed Reche Caldwell. Caldwell spent last season in New Enlgand, where he led the Patriots in receiving in 2006.
Caldwell was available because the Patriots released him at the end of training camp. After having added Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, and Wes Welker this winter, the team had no need for Caldwell, who caught 61-passes for 760-yards and scored four-touchdowns a year ago. He also made 16-receptions and compiled 176-receiving yards during New England’s playoff run a year ago. Read the rest »
Grant’s Slants: Take on the Skins’ week-one Win
September 11th, 2007
So the Redskins are 1-0. They can thank Sean Suisham’s leg for that. Or Antwan Randle El’s hands. Or Stephon Hyre’s compotence at a position he’s never played before.
Here are some of my thoughts on the game… Read the rest »
Redskins Win, but Jansen’s down-and-out
September 11th, 2007
The Washington Redskins beat the Miami Dolphins in a week-one overtime-thriller, 16-13. In the game though, Washington lost the anchor of its offensive line, right-tackle Jon Jansen - a ninth-year starter who’s been in Washington longer than any other player on the team.
Jansen was injured a couple of minutes into the second-quarter on a play in which Jason Taylor sacked Jason Campbell. Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas fell backwards into Jansen’s lower-leg, breaking and dislocating the former Michigan Wolverine’s ankle. The injury is believed to be similar to the one suffered by Jansen’s good buddy and fellow linemate Randy Thomas, who was careted off of the same FedEx Field playing surface in just as much pain two years ago.
